The currency is the pound sterling. The architecture has vestiges of the United Kingdom. And the infrastructure, visibly so. Yet, Northern Ireland bears relics that are undeniably Irish. You spot a turret on a lone island. A solitary castle stands proudly on a field of clover. Now and then you catch snatches of a conversation in thickly accented Irish. It is a country which is finally enjoying the fruits of its dual status as several awed visitors will attest.

BELFAST
Belfast has the air of a city that can take anything in its stride. The onslaught of modernisation has left its Edwardian structures intact. The euphemistically labelled ‘Troubles’ scarcely altered the inhabitants’ stolid affability. And the RMS Titanic, which was built here, holds a place of dubious honour; but, as the locals will constantly remind you “she was fine when she left here”. It’s an intriguing mix of legend and history that has gone into the making of this great city.
